Name: The Succulent (2005)
This painting was inspired by a succulent cactus and the patterning that is found in nature was then duplicated with a variety of geometric shapes and flashes of hot colour, that lead the viewer from the centre to spiral out to the fringes of the painting. The painting has an organic feel to it with rough texture which again emphasises the natural aspect of the painting. |

Name: Tears by the Boab Tree (2005)
Description: Fine geometric and soft swirl patterning are a trademark of many of Lauren's works. A stormy sky and distant boab trees set the scene of a young girl that stares at the viewer with both tears and strength in her eyes. The painting symbolises the cleansing and washing away of fears that can occur when problems strike, as symbolised by the stormy clouds. Yet through the rain, there is a resilience that rises within our spirit and life, as symbolised by the fragments of scarlet that are scattered throughout the painting. |

This painting is full of splashes of bright colour, free brushstrokes and impasto paint that together are reminiscent of hot carefree balmy summers. Lauren hand embroidered sequins onto the canvas to simulate the natural shimmer that can be found on lillium petals. |
